Gilmore, Helen Gertrude

The passing of Helen Gertrude Gilmore of Fredericton, NB, occurred on April 21, 2024 at home. Born on December 3, 1935, in Penniac, NB, she was the daughter of the late Annie “Gertrude” (Moore) and Percival (Percy) Howe Gilmore. Helen worked as an Executive Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat for Province of New Brunswick and was the past secretary for Morning Gate Church, formerly the First Congregational Church of Fredericton.

Helen was known for her generous heart and love of family. She enjoyed life to the fullest. An excellent bowler, winning numerous trophies both locally and provincially; enjoyed watching curling and hockey; was a talented artist in her retirement; enjoyed crafts, especially knitting; and was an avid reader. It never took her long to grab her purse and race out the door when invited out for coffee or a meal. Time spent with family and friends was a big priority for her.

Helen is survived by son Mark Smith (Brenda), grandson Ben Smith (Brianne); great-grandchildren Ava and Austin; brothers, Harry Gilmore (Gloria), Paul Gilmore, John Gilmore (Cathy), sister, Ann Hetherington (Dick); and nieces and nephews: Tammy Albers (George), Andrew Gilmore (Kim), Garth Gilmore (Jen), Kirk Gilmore (Tara), Dawne McSorley, Jennifer McFadgen (Mitch), Kelly Richard (Jaret) and Jaclyn Killam (Jason); as well as several great nieces and nephews; and close friend & neighbour, Jill White, who was an immense help to Helen. The family are grateful beyond words for the friendship, love, and assistance Jill gave Helen. It was only because of Jill’s kindnesses and support that Helen was able to stay in her home to the very end, like she wanted.

In addition to her parents, Helen was predeceased by infant twin brother & sister; and sisters-in-law, Connie Gilmore and Liz Gilmore.
