Obituary of David Leonard Cass

It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of our dad, on Friday, March 22, 2024, after a long battle with COPD.

David was predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Myrtle (Reid) Cass, wife of 59 years, Anita (McLean) Cass, brothers Ronald (infant), Clarence, Donald, Douglas, sisters Pauline, Patrícia, Joyce, Joan, and grandson Nathan Cass.

He is survived by his sister, Anne Marie (Joseph) Sullivan; sisters in-law, Elsie (Donald) Cass and Katherine (Eldon) MacLean; children, Christopher, Richard (Elisa), Lorraine (Eddie) Kinley and Janet (Joe) Blaney; grandchildren, Erica, Spencer (Kasia), Catlin (Iuliana), Brianne, Chelsea, Tia (Matt), Levi (Briana), Zac, Kristina (Tyler), Andrew (Rachael); great-grandchildren, Jaydan, Devon, Karson, Kohen, Aspen, Alder, Vale, Nash, Emmett, Brielle & Brinlee.

Dad’s strength, determination, humor, and loving spirit will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind. He was the center of the Cass family, a quick-witted, kind-hearted, and generous man. He was a true family man and retired from a career with John Deere industrial equipment. David enjoyed life and served the community as a member of the Lions Club. He also enjoyed bowling league times with friends, watching hockey, sports, and movies.

Our family would like to express our sincere appreciation to Jill Rediker, dad’s home maker, for her dedication and caring way she had with him. Carl, Heather, Alex and Emma Demerchant for their dedication and neighbourly kindness toward dad. NP Jackie Boone, Dr. Stephanie Frenette, RN Rhea Ramsay, RT Katie Bruce, foot care support Julie Robinson, for providing dad supports to remain at home, where he wished to be. To friends and neighbours who popped in to visit or provide support. Your kindness was appreciated.

Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Thursday, March 28, 2024 from 1-2 pm with Memorial Service directly following at 2pm in York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel with Pastor Dan Foreman and Pastor Graham Crandall officiating. The service will also be available through www.yorkfh.com (Register at top of the obituary). Interment will take place in the Burtt’s Corner Community Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the New Brunswick Lung Association or Fredericton Extra Mural Program.
